Serenity Prayer – Episode #123

I’m a firm believer that prayer changes things.  Some days I have a hard time dealing with things that are out of my power.  On those days I say the serenity prayer and instantly feel better about moving forward with my day.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Most people stop there, but the rest of the prayer reads…

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

This is a perfect tool to use on your voyage to becoming better.  Memorize it.  Try it.  It works.

The composer of the prayer is said to be the Protestant theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, but the prayer has been dated back as far as 1936.
