Drop Everything

Yesterday, my sister planned a last minute trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA.  She took my niece, Olivia (pictured above) who will be 5 years old on June 28.  Olivia just graduated from Pre-school and will begin Kindergarten in the fall.  I didn’t get a chance to see her graduation and I honestly don’t know where the time went between her being born and starting Kindergarten?!?  2 Words:  Time Flies. As you all know, I’m an extremely busy person.  Even though I have the summer off from being a School Counselor, I still have a ton of other things on my plate.  I regret not spending more time with Olivia over the past 4 years, but yesterday I made a step towards correcting that for the future.  I dropped everything I was doing and drove 3 and a half hours to spend the day with her, my sister, and some very close friends.  Sometimes, dropping everything is the only way to get the VERY important things done.  My friend Roni (who I spent time with last weekend) often says the phrase, “Family over everything.”  You never know when you may have (or not have) the opportunity to spend time with family or catch up with friends.  We must create that time by dropping everything and getting it done.

What would you do if you were strapped to a hospital bed and couldn’t work or move around?  Those important things wouldn’t seem so important to you and someone else would have to step up.  Would your job/company go bankrupt if you missed ONE day?  If so, you definitely need to do some reevaluation and redistribution of work tasks.  You better stop and make the time, before it’s too late.

Olivia, it was great seeing you yesterday.  Happy Birthday!  I’ll see you soon.
