Lets Go – Episode #078


This post can go in so many different directions. But today we’ll just focus on fear and failure. We must learn to let go of our fear of rejection and failure. As a youth, I missed so many opportunities of growth because I was afraid to hear the word, “No”. I was also afraid of not being accepted by peers because I thought differently or because of my attraction to different things. I attempted to fit into this cookie cutter role of what I wore, how I walked, who I dated, and how I spent my free time. I found myself having to play a serious game of catch up with who I really was. So what no one likes me?! Who cares if I didn’t have on the latest fashion!? (SN: Now, I do like to look nice, but this time I’m dressing for ME.) So what if my girlfriend doesn’t look like my last girlfriend or like someone I typically date?! I had to learn to let go of the negativity.

Another thing I learned the hard way was to let go of past failures. I had to take the experience for what it was worth and become a better person from it. Failure is inevitable.  If you’re blessed to live long enough, you’re going to lose at something. No one is perfect. The fear of failing can restrain you from moving forward with your dreams and goals.

Here are 5 things that helped during my growth process of letting go:

  • Turn my discontentment to action – I had to put my money where my mouth was and use my unhappiness as fuel.
  • Change my perspective – I had to change my way of thinking.
  • Look at the bright side – WHATEVER happened, things could be worse. I had to learn to take the good and the bad.
  • Focus on something new – I had to put that energy into something new.
  • Not pity myself – Crying can be therapeutic, but I had to learn to get it out of my system and move on in a timely manner.
