Say No – Episode #040

Is your schedule jam packed?  Are you stressed because people keep asking you to do things on top of all the other stuff that you already do?  Maybe it’s because they know they can count on you to say “Yes”?  Maybe you need to learn to say “No” a little more often? If you’re anything like me you struggle with saying no and letting others down.  Recently, I posted about Staying Focused and this is one way that you can concentrate on one thing at a time.  It’s okay to be a little selfish.  By saying “No” to others and things that fill your place, you are saying “Yes” to yourself and your dreams.  By saying yes to yourself you are ultimately positioning everyone for a better future.  You’re not helping anyone if you’re stressed, irritable, and overworked.

3 Ways to Say No

1.       “ I would love to, but my schedule will not allow me to say yes.  I just do not have the time to commit to anything else.  My plate is full.”2.       “Do you need an answer right now?”  If they do, then automatically say, “No”.  If they don’t need an answer today reply, “Let me sleep on it and take a look at my schedule.”  When you see them again say, “I thought about it long and hard, but my schedule won’t allow me to say yes.  I’m going to have to say no.”

3.       “I apologize, but I can’t do that, but I can do this…”  Set your own guidelines and rule.  Limit your activity and responsibility, that way you are in control.
