Know God – Episode #018

“Trees” by Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

“Poems are made by fools like me.  But only God can make a tree.”  -Joyce Kilmer

“No matter what accomplishments you make, somebody helps you.”  -Wilma Rudolph

The very first someone to help is God, then all the other angels in your life fall into play.  Who are we to think we’re that high and might to take the credit for ourselves?  I asked Dr. Ian Smith (from Celebrity Fit Club & the 50 Million Pound Challenge) what were the factors that played into his global notoriety?  His most interesting response was, “I got a break.  Everyone needs a break.”  We don’t create those breaks; they are gifts from God and help from others.  2 Words:  Divine Intervention.

My family tree extends far and wide with leaves and branches of ministers!  First, my father has been in the ministry over 30 plus years.  Next, I have my grandfather on my mother’s side.  Finally, I have numerous uncles and several cousins on both sides.  My cousin, Kendal Brown opened his initial sermon with a prayer that stated, “May the people in the congregation see less of me and more of Thee.”  I’ll never forget that statement…  To God be the glory.  Ultimately, the things we do should be to glorify God.

It’s almost Christmas and the world will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  As a new year approaches, let us reevaluate our relationship with God.  You may have heard of Him, but do you know Him?  I can talk about Him until I’m blue in the face, but you must get to know Him for yourself.  I know what He is to me and what He’s done for me, but only you can tell your story.  I respect everyone’s religious practices (and political stance *smile*), I’m just speaking from what I know and believe to be true.  Food for thought…  get to know God for yourself.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
